I ran an amateur cat rescue for 18 years.

I had up to fifteen cats in the house at one time, along with kids, dogs, a parrot and a rabbit.

I've rescued and rehabilitated all kinds of problem cats.

I know what the problems are, because I've had them all.

This is a kitten I rescued from a local shelter two years ago:


This is supposed to be a longhaired kitten. He's lost that much fur. He's only 4 1/2 months old, but he was so thin his stomach walls were touching each other. He was so deprived he didn't know how to play. He'd been the evidence in an animal abuse case.


It's when we realize he's supposed to look like the picture at right (a kitten of the same breed at the same age) that we understand just how close to the brink he was when the police were called and got him to the shelter.

Just look at him. He's one happy, healthy, adorable cat.
He had almost every problem a kitten could have.
It's hard to believe he had such a tough start in life, when you look at him now.
