To those who “get” cats, there isn’t any question that they love us. It shows the same way our human friends love us.
They come around for happy interaction, they show interest in what interests us, they cheer us up when we are down, and they miss us when we are away.

To talk about cats loving us, we have to talk about love. Love doesn’t exist by itself.
Love exists in the spaces between us.
During a spring fever incident, Olwyn broke our only battery operated toy. But it turns out I can keep her just as happy and interested without the help.
I use simpler wand toys and put exciting edibles in the puzzle box. I got limited use from the battery operated toy because I couldn’t leave it unattended, and even so, she ran off with it and broke it.
She also likes it when the toy requires me. I can toss a toy, and then leave it alone, thus opening the door for her to amuse herself with it. But, while she doesn’t have RJ’s ability to fetch, she still likes it moving around, and with my commentary, the best.
Toys are not just about giving them exercise for their bodies, but also for their minds. When we cheer our cats on, or do puppet theater so the toy says taunting things, we have added extra interest, attention, and love to the playtime.
Cats don’t love us because we do things for them.
Cats love us because when we do things for them, we show we love them.
They can’t help but love us back.
