Henry worked out the alarm last year. it's a flat cd player with buttons on top. it sits next to a window that looks out on squirrel trees so the attraction to sit on it is understandable. Henry is at least partially deaf so I did not worry about him fussing with the buttons. every morning the alarm would play a cd for an hour and usually I would get up after about 40 minutes (not a morning person). he must love the vibration it makes. one day I came home very late. evening wet food was delayed by several hours. at about 3:30 am the cd started playing! I jumped up. Henry was curled up, apparently fast asleep beside me. the next day he turned the alarm off, making me late for work. the day after that, he turned it off 4 times! that day I found a piece of cardboard to cover the buttons. eventually he found a way to press the buttons through the cardboard and I had to replace it with a thicker type of cardboard. now he uses less direct but equally effective means of getting me out of bed, including but not limited to: pacing around me and making wow sounds, landing all 4 feet on my stomach, crashing objects to the floor from any height and sitting on the alarm and staring at me intently.

Be careful! They're putting bittering agent in some brands of canned air nowadays to discourage kids from "huffing" them. I know the can of 3M I bought last year had it. I didn't notice, blasted it, and got a face full of yuck. I apologized to the kitty and threw the can away.

Make SURE your can does not have the bittering agent in it. It is very unpleasant and lingers in the air.

Lol, and that is why Duhban no longer gets food in the morning. I have a never empty bowl of dry food for him and he gets wet food in the evenings.

At one point he did get feed in the mornings but he proved that he was all too willing to do anything and everything to get me up. Thankfully my alarm clock is my cell so he's never really had an oppurtunity to mess with my alarm clock.

Best of luck with Olwyn this was really useful as Duhban does the same thing (only with scratching things he is not supposed to) so this really helped me with some ideas

Oh Bill, she's scary smart. She has actually turned on the alarm clock, and gotten me up early, a few times.

Of course, Himself finds that really funny...

Yup, the kitty discipline tool of choice, the can of air. You can get it at any computer shop and other places which sell electronics; it's designed to blow dust out of delicate equipment. So it's safe to use anywhere, and it's like hissing at the cat. Only it puts out more air to get the "hiss" effect.
