The Best Kind of Shelter

This is a lovely video, and a dream shelter. Thanks to the faithful reader who sent it to me!

Well, it’s my dream… Mr WereBear is still in recovery from the thought.

Though he’s coming along. For a while, he cited our small apartment and budget as sensible reasons for two cats being the right number in our present circumstances.

Post Reverend Jim, he agrees that three is the perfect number. :)

Just curious, but how big is your apartment? I have a one-bedroom condo, and it wasn’t until after I got my second cat that I heard that “you shouldn’t have more cats than bedrooms, so that they each have their own territories.” Is that true? Killsy and Byron usually coexist pretty peacefully, despite their wildly different personalities.

  2. WereBear says:

I have three cats in a 1 1/2 bedroom apartment. (The half is sized for a youth bed & a small dresser; we use it as a computer room.)

The cat’s need for territory is dependent on who they share it with, not its actual size. My three boys share a Litter Robot, a bed, and two people, because they get along.

When cats don’t get along, no house is large enough. The types of cats, and their blending, is a crucial element.

We once adopted an Alpha kitten, who turned out to be too much for our apartment. It wasn’t just the lack of space, though that was enough. It was that his night rowdies would also affect our neighbors, and our quarters were too cramped to give him the exercise equipment that would have helped. While his story had a happy ending, it illustrates how the cat types perceive space differently.

The apartment was too small for one Alpha, but I could get seven Gammas happy and contented there. (Quick! Someone revive Dear Husband!)
