Oldcat is so right. Too much, even of good things, can overwhelm the cat. See my article, Curing the Aggressive Cat for some tips.

Sometimes a cat, especially one that has been deprived of affection, can't handle an overload of even good things and will react like that.

There are several good articles on this site explaining more. Try "Curing the Aggressive Cat" In general let the cat make the first moves and don't press things too fast.

cat strikes

Hi
my son has recently rescued a tonkinese male from his neighbour who didn't want him and the cat was underfed. My son nurtured him back to health and had him checked by a vet. everything went fine until last night and tonight. The cat was being very affectionate so my son spent time patting him which the cat seemed happy with, but then without warning, his eyes changed to the pupils being vertical and he tried to strike my son, for no reason. Tonite was the second time he's done it. We would like to know why is the cat behaving this way, since he is being taken care of in every way. We don't know what to think. The neighbour has the mother of the cat and apparently they couldn't be together otherwise they would fight. so the cat my son has was always left outside. Hope some of you can shed some light as to the cat's behaviour, and why the eyes changed in shape too, kind of scarry!!
thanks.

Hello!

My name is Heather Scudellari and I am currently researching for Animal Planet's show CATS 101.

We are currently in production of Season Three of CATS 101 and searching for stories. CATS 101 is the television encyclopedia of cat breeds. Each episode explores the history, purpose, temperament, amazing accomplishments, and curious facts about the most popular cat breeds in the world. A crucial theme of the series is the powerful love and intense emotional bond that forms between cats and humans.

We are looking for an uplifting and unique human-interest story to be featured on our upcoming season of CATS 101 about the Tonkinese cat. The story we are looking for goes beyond the basic show cat or breeder stories and focus on amazing feats, talents, strengths, or the special relationships between a Tonkinese and its owner. The biggest challenge of this show is finding stories that are VISUALLY stimulating. Newspaper stories are great but we need to show the cats in action when doing these types of shows!

As a person who is passionate about the Tonkinese breed, I am hoping you know someone who owns a Tonkinese with an amazing story. This could be a story about a microchip reuniting a family with their cat, Tonkinese cat festivals, Tonkinese therapy cat, etc. If so, we would love to get in touch with him/her. Any contact information you could provide me with today would be greatly appreciated. The more contacts the merrier, as we will be filming very soon! You can contact me or my co-worker Arestia Rosenberg at 617.629.2200 x285 or email her at arosenberg@powderhouse.net

To find out more information about DOGS 101 and CATS 101, you can go to our website at:
