Looking for the Kitten Face

Few things are cuter than a kitten. One of their appeals as a pet is that when we acquired them as youngsters, we retain that image of them at their peak of cuteness. This is a wonderful aid in reaching our love for them. This love will not only will help put in perspective the mayhem they leave in their wake, but also the memory that lives on in our adult cat.

Even if we didn’t acquire the cat until they were grown, that kitten lives on. The face of our cat shows the face of the kitten they once were. This is most easily seen when they are relaxed and happy.

We can talk to them the way we would have when they were a kitten, and we see more of the kitten face. Ask them how cute they were. They will be glad to tell us.

Playtime and setting puzzles for the cat will also bring out their kitten cuteness. If we want them to be playful, we should play with them in their favorite ways, from hiding treats in a puzzle box to getting out a wand toy.

We should get them excited about mealtimes by being enthused ourselves. We should greet them with all the thrill of coming home to a kitten. We should treat them like a kitten so they can act more like a kitten.

We should look for the kitten face, we should seek the kitten face, and we should love the kitten face.

This will create an atmosphere of love and trust in which we can let bloom our deepest feelings. Cats will not show this marvelous side to just anyone. One who experiences it becomes… a Cat Appreciator.

Kittens do show that side. That’s why everyone loves kittens. But we must never regret them growing into cats. We get the ease and peace of adult relationships, and then, at certain times of the day, or when we are feeling close, we can get the kitten, too.

Cats retain their kittenness most when in that atmosphere of love and trust. Then they feel comfortable showing their vulnerable side.

Just as we do.

We can have our cat, and kitten too.
