I have a 12 year old male/neuter Burmese. He was rescued from a shelter when he was 3 years old. While he is a very typical Burmese in a lot of ways, he can also be very agressive in play, and sometimes just attacking for no reason. He loves select people, but is not overly friendly to all people (he snobs them). He loves cuddles with her particular favourites, talks all the time and sleeps on our pillows and generally runs the household. Loves to chase toys but is equally happy sitting on his own in a box watching the world go by. Would you classify him as a Beta? We are getting a kitten and I am trying to match personalities.
Many thanks :)

Manx is definitely a Beta, while any cat with Abyssinian in them will be strongly on the Alpha side. American or British shorthairs are the archetypal Beta cat; mellow, take everything in stride, highly affectionate but not demanding. Their only drawback might be that they are not that tactile; a cat like a Ragdoll, who loves cuddling, might be just right for a gentle six year old who wants to cuddle just as much as they do.

For more about Betas, see all my posts about the <a href="http://www.wayofcats.com/blog/tag/beta-cat-type" rel="nofollow">Beta cat type</a>.

Hi im curious what other breeds do you consider a beta. Im interested in the bengal/ abyssisian/tiger(toyger) and the manx. any suggestions can any of these be a beta personality. im also a 1st time cat owner with a calm/gentle 6 year old and a husband who instist it be a young kitten that we adopt/purchase.
any suggestions or advice about this or in general would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Thanks alot for the description! My cat is definitely a beta.

I’m currently considering adopting a new cat to the household. My cat is 1 yr old male/neutered and I’m wonder what would be a good match for him so they would get along?

- kitten vs. older cat
- male vs. female
- alpha/beta/gamma

Does anyone have a good idea?

Sounds like Hermes. Sadly, he died last weekend, almost 2 years old, but he was likely the most outgoing cat I've had - he quite simply loved everyone. And he was a very easy-going cat, I seldom saw him scared, angry or sad. Lots of energy, too, though part of that could be my perception being skewed by older cats.
