What if there were no cats killed just because they didn’t have a home?
Just One Day will let us imagine what such a world is like.
June 11, 2012 will be that day.
There are 120 days until June 11. I’m going to be spending my time promoting this event as often as I can.
I’ll use my Facebook page.
I’ll use my Twitter feed.
I’ll use my new Open Salon Blog outlet that I just started.
If one of these methods works better for you than coming to the blog, great! This is why I fuss.
I feel that this is an incredible, fantastic, idea that will bring home the harsh truth that we few, we happy few, we band of brothers and sisters is not yet enough to make the killing, stop.
To quote from the Just One Day website:
We are asking animal shelters across the USA to take a pledge not to kill any savable animals on June 11, 2012. For Just One Day, “Euthanasia Technicians” will put down their syringes and pick up cameras. Instead of injecting animals with lethal doses of sodium pentobarbital, they will photograph them and post them on the Internet, on Facebook, on twitter. On June 11, 2012, they will market their animals to the public, they will reach out to rescue groups, they will host adoption events with discounted rates, they will stay open for extended hours, and they will ask their communities to help them empty the shelter the good way.
Quite often, when people find out how I spend so much of my time, they ask, “Why do you care so much?”
And my answer is, “Why do you care so little?”

I will donate my heartfelt prayers to a future in which no saveable cats are killed, neglected or abused, ever.
Thank you, Amy. Spreading the word, and countering the false objections they throw up (I recently discovered they spread the lie that rescue groups are hoarders in disguise) will help a lot in helping the movement find new supporters.
