Iams canned cat food recalled for low levels of Vitamin B1
Specific lots of Iams canned cat food has been voluntarily recalled by the Procter & Gamble Company as a precautionary measure. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced the recall on Wednesday, June 9, 2010.
Nutritional deficiencies in processed foods can be avoided by offering a mix of different foods from different manufacturers.

I had just fed the cats Iams Pro-Biotic when I read that. Fortunately, it wasn’t one of the recalled cans, nor were the rest I had.
I check the AVMA recall site 3 times a week, and I recommend that everyone with a pet do so, too. It also has an RSS feed.

While a deficiency is not as dangerous as a toxin, it can create a problem when that deficient food is all we are serving.
Thanks for the site, Bill. I did have a couple of the cans, but I didn’t feed any beast regularly with that stuff – a dollop of canned Iams was just the easiest way to get medicine into the feral Greybeast who lives in our back yard. Good point about variety of foods, I’ll keep that in mind.
