Our attempts to add the little Coon cat Esme to our group has stressed out a couple of our kitties. But the worst is little Esme herself. With both of her people gone, her time spent outside, with no food or shelter, she had to fend off some pretty vicious beasts. That's made her reject the overtures of our peace-makers, I think. She is very calm with us, and clearly pretty well attached, but we are taking it much slower than we did at the start. She is overwhelmed, and so are two of the senior girls, who were so good at "mothering" other cats we've had.
I'm learning a lot about the limits to change from them; I just hope we can slowly get to a better atmosphere overall.
