Cat Affection Moves: Confuse-a-Cat

How can we tell if our cat is happy? We can and do take care of the basics; food, water, a good litter arrangement. Does the cat want something more? Can we tell if our cat is unhappy, bored, or lonely?

We can find out what the cat is wanting by confusing them. If we suspect the cat is unhappy, we can test our perceptions by seeing how they react to new stimuli. Cats are creatures of patterns. Coming home from work is a good time to see how the cat reacts to a different pattern.

If we usually seek out the cat, make our homecoming different by pretending great interest in everything but the cat. Put away the groceries, busy ourselves with a project, or just stand around like we are trying to remember something. An assertive cat will try to get our attention, and we can make a great fuss over seeing them at last. A shy cat will peer at us from around the furniture, wondering what is different about today. Either way, don’t let the game go on too long. We want the cat to make a move, but we don’t want to hurt the cat’s feelings.

If we don’t usually seek out the cat, why not? It might be our turn to find them and make a fuss over them, and their look of surprise and pleasure will make us feel silly we haven’t made this a part of our routine before now.

Either way, the beauty of “Confuse a Cat” is how it creates a situation that the cat will have to react to in a new and different way. This will shatter their shell of routine. They will show their true feelings.

In their reaction, we can discover what the cat has been wanting, because our opening of this door will create the cat’s desire to fill it, now that they have the chance.

  • If they race around with lively energy, they want to play with us more.
  • If they go around talking and showing us things, they want more interaction and communication with us when we are home.
  • If the cat soaks up our sudden attention, rolling over to show their belly and reaching for us with their paws, they have been feeling neglected.
  • By responding to the cat’s indication of what they want more of, we can develop a new phase in our relationship, so we will wind up with a more devoted and interesting pet.

Shaking up our interactions with the cat doesn’t just get the cat out of their rut. It does the same for us. We will discover a new side to the cat, and get them thinking about more ways to play with us, communicate with us, and show their love for us.

Cats are easy. Except when it comes to their emotional relationships. They are loving and thinking beings that revel in us welcoming them into our lives and hearts.

If the cat’s been missing something, it’s probably a deeper connection with us.

My cat – Michael sometimes comes to see who came home :-) He usually wakes up, when the door slaps, comes our from is cat house and starts to meow at you like: Hey, it was about time that somebody came home :-) He has long fur and he is all shaggy :-D
It is true, that we maybe do not pay much attention to him… When I was at high school and I was learning, he used to jump on my table and lied on my school notes :-) Maybe he just wanted to lie under the light, where it is warm :-) He lied there and slowly shut down his eyes :-) I think, that no one can get your attention as he does :-)
