I bought a PetMate fountain nearly 10 years ago for an elderly cat who has since died. It’s still going strong and every cat which has come near it since has preferred it to any other water source. They love the charcoal filtered running water. I wouldn’t recommend using a decorative fountain for the reason Tina gave – it might contain toxic materials – but the PetMate is a great choice. Kind of pricey, but it lasts for years so it all evens out.

Are you sure that the materials and adhesives used int hat fountain are food-safe? Unless specified I would not trust so. There are some beautiful artisan ceramics fountains made with food safe ceramics and adhesives but please don’t use fountains that are not intended to drink out of for your cats, you could be poisoning them.

Cats sometimes seem to like to drink from anywhere that you don’t want them to. They are of course used to looking around in nature for many sources of water. My cat is picky, I’m not sure if she would drink from a fountain.

Your site has given me a lot of the information I have been looking for.

My daughter wants me to buy her a kitten. However I told her that we need to know how to care for a kitten before we purchase one.

Some of the things mentioned here on your site I was aware of, but there were other things mentioned that I would have never thought of on my own like “In winter, keep adding water to offset the higher evaporation rate in dry, heated, air. If the fountain level drops too fast, it’s a sign we need to get a humidifier for our home.”

It’s nice little tid bits like these that help me in making the decision to get a kitty or not.

I think you should learn about ceramic cat fountains – much better than the plastic models and way better looking.

Excellent tip about misting the cat grass!

We have a fountain for our cats Annie and Charlie, which they really like. But, Charlie STILL insists on coming to get either my wife or I to turn the faucet on for him. He knows he’ll get his back stroked while drinking from the faucet, which the fountain just won’t do for him!

This is a great post. I might look into getting some kind of fountain for my older cat who doesn't drink a lot of water. But sure can't spend a lot of money. But it is a good idea. .-= Marg´s last blog ..What is a feral cat? =-.
